Why You Need a Lazy Susan

Lazy Susans have made a comeback in recent years. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. They are made of every material known to man, with the most common material used being wood. They are a simple yet versatile device, being able to fit in all the nooks and crannies of your home. However, some think that they don’t need one, the most common excuse being “I have too much stuff!” Well, I say, that’s the main reason why you do need a Lazy Susan! Here’s why.

First and foremost, a Lazy Susan is an organizational piece. By that I mean its number one purpose is for organization. Take your dining table, for instance. Say you are eating dinner and you need the salt. You glance at the center of the table where everything is all jumbled together. You strain to see around the taller items in the hopes of catching a glimpse of that salt shaker. When you finally locate it, you reach over everything to pick it up... BAM! You knock the ketchup over.

Compare that scenario to this: You’re eating dinner and need the salt. You glance at the center of the table where everything is neatly sitting atop your Lazy Susan. Not seeing the salt right away, you turn the Lazy Susan. With the flick of your wrist the salt appears before you within easy reach. No hindrances, no strain, no cleaning up spilled ketchup. It is a game changer!

Another reason for having a Lazy Susan is its versatility. Not only is it a lifesaver for the table, but it is also useful on kitchen islands, countertops, pantries, and in cabinets (to name a few places). Wherever you need to organize the clutter in your home, your trusty Lazy Susan is the tool for the job.

But organizing the home is not the only thing a Lazy Susan is good for. It is also a popular tool in the world of art and handcrafted goods. Pottery, painting, photography, woodworking, you name it. I have several Lazy Susans I use in the woodshop myself! Daunting tasks like sanding, painting, staining, and sealing become easy with a Lazy Susan, especially with larger projects. Not only that, but motorized versions are commonly used in other industries, such as retail and shipping!

Whether your table is big or small, every table needs a Lazy Susan. And if you don’t have a table (another common excuse for not having a Lazy Susan), there are a thousand and one places around the home you can use one. Its benefits as an organizational piece and a versatile tool are revered not just by homeowners, but also across many industries and professions. Who would’ve thought that such a simple item could make such a huge impact? No wonder it's making a comeback! And if you think that’s handy, wait until the holidays!
